Since I live in Suriname I haven’t been able to really be a big part of the HP fandom when it comes to premieres and such, so I don’t really have a lot of moments to share. Even the last premiere I couldn’t watch through live stream ‘cause I had to go do a school project. So, I’d like to tell you guys my first experience with Harry Potter.
I was 11 years old when when I first saw a picture of Dan and Rupert as Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley in a dutch teenage magazine. I read the story that accompanied it and I remember thinking: “A movie about magic? That’s original.” I was a little cynical about it. I hadn’t heard about the books then.
A couple of weeks later my mother called from work and asked me if I wanted to see a new movie she heard about. Of course I said yes. It was only after I arrived at the theatre that I realized it was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I went in thinking I wasn’t going to enjoy it and I came out with stars in my eyes. That’s pretty much where my love for HP started. I read the books quite a few years later, but I will never forget my first experience with the boy who lived. It was magic. x
